Every fall since 1990, a group of fabulous women have convened for Another Great Night in November--the now legendary, women's-only event benefiting the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston's exhibition and education programs. And, sorry gentlemen, you're not invited.

This femme-fête is always held in one of Houston's most interesting homes. Past venues have included the residences of Nina Zilkha, Becca Cason Thrash, and most recently, Eliza Stedman.

After two decades of success, CAMH is embarking on our 20th anniversary of Another Great Night this November 16, 2010 benefitting the museum's general operating expenses. Host Marita Fairbanks has graciously offered to open her spacious art-filled home for this stellar social occasion.

Originally established at the suggestion of Cornelia Long as a foil to the men's-only A Great Night in November benefitting The Museum of Fine Arts Houston, the women's event is now famous in its own right. Both events are held on the same evening in early to mid-November. This women's-only event consists of two parts: a popular high-stakes trivia contest followed by a decadent dinner. During the contest portion of the evening-which has become increasingly competitive!-each person has an academic bluebook in which to write her individual answers, and each table works as a team with one pink book to record their collective answers. Lavishly dressed women travel from room to room answering questions from several categories, including the art and design in each room, the evening's theme, CAMH history, and more.

Director of Education and Public Programs Paula Newton and Curator Valerie Cassel Oliver develop the list of questions each year and offer some time-tested strategy hints: Table-stacking, where a table host invites "ringers" with special historical and topical knowledge to be a part of their team; going from room to room as a team to come up with correct answers; or splitting up so that each table-team-member can concentrate on one room only; mother-daughter power teams-as the traditions of Another Great Night pass to the next generation, these groups are frequent contest winners. In years past we have seen three-way ties and frequently tie break questions are necessary to name a winner.
